            Alert™ Internal Cardioversion Catheter

The Alert™ Internal Cardioversion Catheter manufactured by Dot Medical is designed and intended for temporary transmission of electrical impulses for the purpose of atrial Internal Cardioversion. Alert™ Catheters are capable  of intracardiac atrial internal cardioversion, intracardiac pacing, sensing, ECG recording and pressure monitoring of the heart.

            The Alert™ Catheter

Alert™ Catheters have a nominal usable length of 110 +/- 5cm. The catheter body consists of 7.5 French flexible radiopaque multi-lumen polymeric tubing. A large 0.028" distal lumen runs central through the tubing and facilitates the passage of the catheter over a 0.021" diameter guidewire for added ease of insertion. This lumen also provides a means to draw blood samples, infuse liquids and measure blood pressures (RA, RV, CVP, PCWP, MPAP).

The distal lumen is terminated proximally with a female luer-lock hub extension and is marked "PA DISTAL". Two custom, removeable, user formable stainless steel stylets (one straight, one with a PA curve) are also supplied with the Alert™ Catheter and can optionally be used in the lumen to aid in steering the distal tip of the catheter in to the left pulmonary arch. Each custom sylet is coated with Teflon™ to simplify insertion/withdrawal and terminates proximally with a male luer-lock orbicular knob.

At the distal end of the Alert™ Catheters is a natural latex balloon connected by a lumen terminating proximally in an inflation extension marked "INFLATION VOL MAX 2CC" which includes a two-way stopcock with female luer-lock hub.

A series of six 5mm platinum-iridium bands make up the distal PA shock array and similarly six 5mm bands make up the proximal atrial shock array. Within the atrial shock array is a single 2mm band which is used to sense the atrial EGM and to deliver a paced stimulus to the atrium. A separate single 2mm band is positioned between the two arrays and is intended to lie in the right ventricular outflow tract.  This band is used to sense the ventricular ECG and to deliver a paced stimulus to the ventricle.

The two shock arrays and two sense/pace electrodes terminate proximately in a Redel connector which can be connected to a cable and hence to the Companion™

The Alert™ Catheter should only be used by physicians who have been appropriately trained in the use of the Alert™ Catheter
